Mediclear Floor Dee Grease: The Difference Between a Clean Floor and a Degreased One
Share
Anyone who's mopped a kitchen floor behind a fryer station knows the problem: it looks clean the moment you finish, and by the next shift it's tacky again. That's not a mopping technique problem — it's a product problem. General floor cleaner cuts everyday dirt. It doesn't touch grease that's worked its way into a textured or non-slip floor surface, and along the Surf Coast, where fish and chip shops, cafés and pub kitchens run fryers and grills daily through a busy tourist season, that grease build-up is a constant background problem until you deal with it properly.
Mediclear Floor Dee Grease Heavy Duty Floor Degreaser is built specifically for that job, and it's available in Eucalyptus or Lemon depending on what you'd rather be smelling at 11pm during close.
Why a Kitchen Floor Needs Its Own Product
Textured and rough commercial kitchen floors are designed to be slip-resistant, which means grease has plenty of surface area to bind to instead of just sitting on top where a mop can lift it straight off. A general-purpose floor cleaner will move surface soiling around, but it isn't formulated to break down oil and grease at that level — which is exactly why kitchens that rely on an all-purpose product end up with floors that stay slightly greasy no matter how often they're mopped. Floor Dee Grease is formulated specifically to penetrate that build-up on rough, textured surfaces rather than just clean the top layer.
How It Actually Works: Dwell, Agitate, Rinse
The method matters here more than with a quick surface spray. Clear loose debris off the floor first, then apply Floor Dee Grease directly — pour, mop, or spray it on, whatever suits the space. Let it dwell for 2–5 minutes so it has time to actually penetrate and break down the grease rather than just sit on the surface. For a floor that's had a full service or hasn't been properly degreased in a while, give it longer before you start agitating — the extra dwell time does the work a scrubbing arm can't.
Once it's dwelled, agitate with a mop, scrubbing brush, or floor scrubber to lift the loosened grease, then remove the solution with a mop, squeegee, or wet vacuum, and rinse with clean water before it dries. Skipping the rinse is a common shortcut that leaves a residue behind, which just gives the next round of grease something to stick to faster.
Eucalyptus or Lemon: Functionally the Same, Different Finish
Both variants are the same heavy duty degreasing formula — the only difference is the fragrance left behind once the floor's dry. Eucalyptus reads clean and slightly medicinal, which a lot of back-of-house kitchens prefer because it doesn't compete with food smells the way a stronger citrus can. Lemon is brighter and more recognisably "clean" to customers if any of your back-of-house area is within earshot or smell-range of a dining area. Neither is the "better" product — it comes down to what the space already smells like and what you'd rather smell like after a close.
Doing It Safely
Floor Dee Grease is classified as non-hazardous and non-dangerous goods, so there's no special transport or storage paperwork involved — but a kitchen floor mid-degrease is still a genuine slip hazard, wet and loosened grease included. Wear rubber boots, overalls, gloves, and an apron while you're working, put out wet floor signage, and control access until the floor's rinsed and dry. For the 25L size, decant into a mop bucket or spray applicator rather than working straight out of the drum.
Sizing It for Your Kitchen
5L covers a single kitchen's regular back-of-house degreasing on a weekly or fortnightly rotation. 25L is built for high-volume sites — larger venues, multi-site hospitality groups, or anyone doing a full degrease across more than one kitchen floor without wanting to reorder mid-job.
